The BDA Good Practice Scheme offers patients peace of mind that dental practices are committed to working to a high quality standard of good practice set by the profession's national association. At the heart of the Scheme is the Good Practice Scheme commitment: a ten point statement to providing a quality service. To meet this commitment and join the Scheme, we must satisfy a number of relevant standards, all of which are based upon a consensus of what is regarded as good practice by the profession.

Good Practice Scheme commitments

1. Provide dental care of consistently good quality, for all patients.
2. Provide care that meets patients’ needs and wishes.
3. Make patients’ treatment as comfortable and convenient as possible.
4. Look after patients’ general health and safety while receiving dental care.
5. Check for mouth cancer and tell patients what we find.
6. Follow the BDA’s guidelines on infection control.
7. Take part in continuing professional development to keep our skills and knowledge up-to-date.
8. Train all staff in practice-wide work systems and review training plans once a year.
9. Welcome feedback and deal promptly with any complaints.
10. All members of the practice know of the need to ensure that dentists are working safely.
