If decay is not too advanced, you have the option of having all the decay removed and the tooth restored with a white (tooth coloured) filling.
Our dentists can safely replace silver amalgam fillings with white tooth coloured fillings.
Having a white filling often results in less of the original tooth needing to be removed as tooth coloured fillings adhere to the tooth rather than the need to prepare a more extensive retentive cavity required for amalgam fillings. This generally results in a stronger restored tooth.
The most noticeable advantage is, of course, that they look like natural tooth!
Dental decay happens when the enamel and dentine of a tooth become softened by acid attack and then bacterial ingress, producing a cavity (hole).
