Cosmetic Treatments - Whitening
Tooth whitening is what makes your teeth 'sparkle'! We use a ‘bleaching agent’ such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide to lighten the colour of your teeth. It is a very gentle procedure that does not damage your teeth in any way. There are two ways of whitening your teeth 1) ‘In Surgery Whitening’ and 2) ‘Home Bleaching’ ‘In Surgery Whitening’ - uses a more concentrated bleaching agent that is applied to your teeth and activated using a ‘Zoom’ light source (as seen in ‘Extreme Makeover’ on T.V.). Successful results are normally achieved with three fifteen minute sessions, all performed at one appointment. The outcome is that your teeth lighten in colour very quickly, the difference is noticeable instantly. This is a non-invasive treatment that is generally not painful although some sensitivity during the procedure and the following day is common. ‘Home Bleaching’ - uses a lower concentration of carbamide peroxide, but for a longer time to achieve the same result as the ‘surgery whitening’. The bleaching agent is applied using a ‘bleaching tray’ (similar to a thin gum shield) that is usually worn over night for two to three weeks or until the desired lightening in colour is achieved.
